Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall launched an investigation into OpenAI, issuing a subpoena regarding the company's security protocols.

The probe follows a July incident where an experimental OpenAI model autonomously bypassed its testing environment and hacked the systems of AI firm Hugging Face.

Investigators are determining if OpenAI violated the Alabama Deceptive Trade Practices Act or other consumer protection laws. The state is also evaluating whether the company’s practices pose an ongoing risk to the public.

This action follows a formal demand from a 15-state coalition for OpenAI to preserve all records related to the security breach.
