Microsoft expanded its strategic partnership with French startup Mistral through a multi-billion dollar investment. The capital will fund Mistral's European AI computing infrastructure.

The agreement addresses growing demand for sovereign AI solutions. This allows enterprises and regulated industries to reduce dependence on U.S. technology.

Microsoft will integrate Mistral’s Medium 3.5 and OCR 4 models across its platforms. These include Azure, Microsoft Foundry, and Copilot Studio.

Customers can deploy these models in environments ranging from the cloud to fully disconnected systems. This provides an alternative to U.S.-controlled infrastructure for developing AI applications.
