MTN Nigeria Communications PLC partnered with First WATT Renewable Limited to deploy large-scale renewable energy across its critical network facilities. The project installs 34 megawatts-peak (MWp) of solar capacity at data centers and switching centers. The initiative adds 40 megawatt-hours (MWh) of battery storage to these key sites.
This transition aims to reduce MTN’s heavy reliance on diesel generators, which currently represent a major operating expense. The partnership also includes powering 60-kilowatt EV charging stations at eight MTN locations.
The program expects to avoid 25,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions over five years. This move strengthens Nigeria’s digital infrastructure while improving power reliability for essential services.
