YMTC is planning to build three new factories to expand NAND flash memory production. This expansion will more than double the company's current manufacturing capacity. China's largest memory chipmaker currently produces 200,000 wafers per month across two existing factories.
Each new plant will have a capacity of 100,000 wafers per month when fully operational. The first new facility is scheduled for completion in 2026. This plant will begin operations later this year and aims for a capacity of 50,000 wafers per month by 2027.
The expansion supports China's strategy to achieve semiconductor self-sufficiency. This move follows escalating trade tensions and export restrictions from the United States.
