Newmont suspended underground operations at its Cadia gold mine in New South Wales on Friday.
Two earthquakes struck the area, prompting the immediate evacuation of all personnel. The company reported no injuries and is currently inspecting underground facilities.
This incident marks the second seismic shutdown at the facility within nine weeks. A previous 4.5-magnitude earthquake on April 14 caused a five-week suspension.
The Cadia mine represents approximately 11% of Newmont’s total net asset value. Prolonged disruptions at the site threaten the company's annual production targets.
