QatarEnergy is negotiating multi-year contracts with U.S. producers Venture Global and Cheniere Energy. The state-owned firm aims to secure liquefied natural gas supplies through 2031. This strategy replaces production lost after Iranian military strikes damaged the Ras Laffan facility in March.
The company is shifting from spot market purchases to long-term agreements to meet Asian customer commitments. The strikes disabled two production trains while the Strait of Hormuz remains closed. Qatar previously provided approximately 20% of the world’s total LNG supply. Repairs to the damaged infrastructure are expected to take several years.
