NIO began rolling out its Nio World Model (NWM) assisted-driving software to over 700,000 vehicles on Thursday. This release marks the first time an automaker has deployed a major upgrade across different hardware platforms simultaneously. The update supports vehicles using both third-party Nvidia Orin-X chips and NIO’s in-house Shenji processors.

The company is offering the software free of charge, including for vehicles purchased up to four years ago. The system is the first in China to directly output steering and pedal signals. This technical advancement reduces latency and improves control smoothness.

U.S.-listed shares of NIO rose more than 3.7% in overnight trading late Wednesday following the announcement.
