Novo Nordisk U.S. head Jamey Millar aims to rebalance Wegovy sales between insurance coverage and direct-to-consumer purchases.
Self-pay consumers currently represent 30% of injectable Wegovy sales volume. The newly launched pill version of the drug sees 90% of sales coming from direct purchases. Millar targets an even 50/50 split between insured patients and self-pay consumers.
A new Medicare pilot program launches on July 1 to expand access. Qualified beneficiaries will pay $50 per month for GLP-1 drugs like Wegovy. Novo Nordisk expects this program to drive demand and shift the sales mix toward a sustainable insurance-reimbursed model.
