The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) granted Netgear conditional approval to import consumer routers, cable modems, and gateways through October 1, 2027. Netgear is the first retail router company to receive this exemption.

The Department of Defense reviewed Netgear’s application and concluded its products do not pose a national security risk. Netgear manufactures its hardware in allied nations, including Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia.

This approval allows Netgear to launch new products and provide security updates beyond a March 2027 deadline for non-approved equipment. The decision follows a recent FCC action placing foreign-produced routers on a Covered List of potential security threats.
