NVIDIA secured a non-exclusive license for chip technology from AI startup Groq. The company will also hire Groq's key executives, including founder and CEO Jonathan Ross. This move allows NVIDIA to leverage Groq’s specialized inference technology and integrate its leadership talent.

The deal aims to enhance NVIDIA's capabilities in AI inference. This market segment faces greater competition than AI training, where NVIDIA currently boasts dominance.

Groq confirmed via a blog post that it remains an independent entity, correcting earlier reports of a full $20 billion acquisition. Financial terms of the licensing and hiring agreement were not disclosed.

The news broke late on December 24th. Due to the Christmas holiday closure, a market reaction has not yet been observed.
