TikTok's U.S. operations experienced significant technical glitches, including issues with logins and video uploads, beginning around January 25, 2026. The newly formed U.S. entity, TikTok USDS Joint Venture, attributed the disruption to a power outage at one of its U.S. data centers and confirmed it was working with its data partner to restore service.
The timing of the outage is notable, occurring just days after TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, finalized a deal to create a majority U.S.-owned joint venture to avoid a ban in the country. Under this new structure, cloud computing giant Oracle is responsible for securing U.S. user data and the content algorithm within its U.S. cloud environment. This incident represents the first major technical challenge for the platform under its new U.S.-focused ownership and infrastructure.
