A consortium including SoftBank, PayPay, and Sumitomo Mitsui Card is in final negotiations to invest several hundred billion yen in Seven & i Holdings. The transaction may involve the issuance of new shares. The companies aim to finalize the agreement by the summer of 2026.

The partnership will integrate PayPay’s 74 million users with 7-Eleven’s network of 22,000 stores. This deal seeks to merge Japan’s largest convenience store chain with major telecommunications and payment infrastructures.

The collaboration plans to utilize SoftBank’s AI technology and autonomous delivery robots for next-generation retail. Although discussions are advancing, the involved firms have not officially commented on the deal.
