Paramount Skydance secured all 68 required regulatory approvals for its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. The total value of the merger is $110.9 billion. The U.S. Department of Justice granted clearance on August 14, 2026. WBD shareholders previously approved the merger agreement in April.
A coalition of 12 state attorneys general led by California is currently blocking the deal with an antitrust lawsuit. The companies agreed in July to delay the closing date until June 2027. A federal judge scheduled the trial for March 2027.
Paramount is publicly urging the state attorneys general to settle the litigation. The company asked a court on August 17 to require a $1.9 billion bond from the states. This bond would cover financial costs associated with the extended delay.
