The European Commission designated Reddit and Roblox as Very Large Online Platforms (VLOPs). The Commission also classified ChatGPT as a Very Large Online Search Engine (VLOSE).
These designations apply to services reaching at least 45 million average monthly users in the EU. The companies have four months to comply with the strictest Digital Services Act (DSA) rules. The compliance deadline is the end of December 2026.
New obligations require firms to assess and mitigate systemic risks from illegal content. Platforms must also implement measures to protect minors. Additionally, companies must increase transparency in algorithms and advertising.
Violations carry potential fines of up to 6% of global annual revenue.
