Reddit announced the commencement of testing for a new verified profiles feature. The system introduces a grey checkmark next to usernames to enhance transparency on the platform.

The primary goal is assisting users in identifying authentic individuals and businesses, particularly during official brand announcements. The rollout begins with a small, curated group that already maintains an official presence on the site.

Reddit clarified that the verification process is voluntary and opt-in. The checkmark will not grant special privileges or additional access to private user data. This new grey checkmark replaces the existing "official" watermark used for businesses.
