Reliance Industries is holding advanced discussions with Chinese battery giant Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (CATL) and other global suppliers. The company aims to source critical components for its large-scale battery energy storage systems.

These parts will supply Reliance’s upcoming facility in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The site is expected to become India’s largest energy storage complex.

Chairman Mukesh Ambani is driving the move to position the company as a leader in India’s clean energy transition. The negotiations follow previous setbacks in developing in-house lithium-ion battery cell technology.

The strategy allows Reliance to navigate China’s tightening export controls on battery technology. It also leverages the manufacturing scale of global suppliers.
