Rio Tinto and Prysmian have partnered with Amazon to supply electrical cables for an Amazon data center in Ohio. These cables utilize low-carbon aluminum produced through Rio Tinto’s ELYSIS technology. This project marks the first documented use of ELYSIS-smelted aluminum within a data center.
The ELYSIS smelting process eliminates all direct greenhouse gas emissions. The technology produces oxygen as its only by-product. Prysmian manufactures the specialized cables at its production facility in Missouri.
The collaboration supports Amazon’s commitment to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. The initiative specifically targets the carbon intensity of raw materials within the company's supply chain.
