Banco Santander SA reported a 15% increase in underlying profit to €7.3 billion for the first half of 2026. Attributable profit jumped 31% to €8.97 billion. These results include a €1.9 billion net capital gain from the sale of its stake in Santander Bank Polska.
The bank launched a new €1.8 billion share buyback program following European Central Bank approval. This initiative supports a broader plan to distribute at least €10 billion to shareholders through 2026. Santander added 12 million customers during the period, bringing its total user base to 182 million.
Shares traded slightly lower in Madrid following the announcement. The bank remains on track to meet its full-year 2026 targets. Revenue is projected to grow in the mid-single digits this year. Management expects 2026 profit to surpass the €14.1 billion reported in 2025.
