SpaceX has initiated testing for its next-generation direct-to-cell satellite service. The company is utilizing spectrum currently being acquired from EchoStar to provide broadband data and Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity.

The service leverages SpaceX V2 satellites to access EchoStar’s AWS-4, AWS-H Block, and unpaired AWS-3 frequencies. These capabilities move the partnership beyond basic text messaging toward high-speed data delivery.

SpaceX aims to provide a user experience comparable to current terrestrial LTE services. This development positions the service to augment existing 5G networks and challenge traditional carriers like AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon.
