Sibanye Stillwater is appealing a U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) ruling that found Russian palladium imports do not threaten domestic production. The South African miner is currently the sole primary producer of palladium in the United States.
Sibanye contends the ITC failed to consider evidence of illegal dumping and subsidization that led to depressed market prices. The company first petitioned U.S. authorities in July 2025 to impose tariffs to ensure the long-term viability of its domestic operations.
North American palladium producers currently face significant pressure from low prices for the autocatalyst metal. Sibanye stated it will continue to pursue all available trade remedies to sustain a resilient and responsibly sourced domestic supply of the critical mineral.
