Shell agreed to sell its Indian renewable energy platform, Sprng Energy, to Aditya Birla Renewables Ltd. for an enterprise value of $1.8 billion.

The deal includes Solenergi Power Private Ltd and its 5 gigawatts-peak (GWp) portfolio of solar and wind assets.

Shell previously acquired the Sprng Energy group in 2022 for $1.55 billion.

This divestment allows Shell to high-grade its power portfolio and recycle capital into asset-backed trading strategies.

The acquisition expands Aditya Birla Group’s total renewable energy capacity to 9.3 GWp.

The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2026, pending regulatory approvals.
