SanDisk and SK hynix launched a partnership on February 25 to establish a global standard for High Bandwidth Flash (HBF). The companies will create a dedicated workstream under the Open Compute Project (OCP) to lead the standardization process.
HBF functions as a new memory tier positioned between ultra-fast High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) and high-capacity Solid State Drives (SSDs). The technology aims to improve AI system scalability while reducing the total cost of ownership.
This strategic move targets the growing demand for memory solutions as the AI industry shifts focus from training to inference. SanDisk plans to deliver the first HBF memory samples in the second half of 2026.
