Databricks officially entered the cybersecurity market with the launch of Lakewatch, a new Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platform. The service leverages AI to detect and respond to threats by analyzing data already managed within the Databricks ecosystem. Lakewatch unifies security, IT, and business data while separating compute and storage costs to reduce overhead.

The company acquired two startups, Antimatter and SiftD, to bolster the new security division. Antimatter provides secure data access controls, while SiftD offers expertise in large-scale threat analytics. SiftD was founded by former Splunk engineers, bringing industry-specific talent to the firm.

These strategic moves position Databricks to compete directly with established cybersecurity vendors. The expansion strengthens the company's product portfolio and valuation as it prepares for a widely anticipated IPO.
