Snowflake experienced a major global outage on December 19, 2025. A recent software update introduced a backward-incompatible database schema change, causing version conflicts within the platform.
The disruption prevented customers across 10 of the company's 23 worldwide regions from running queries or loading data. Services in the United States, Europe, and Asia were affected. In some cases, the outage lasted more than 13 hours.
Snowflake identified the cause approximately 90 minutes after initial reports and began recovery. Some users criticized the time required to roll back the problematic change. The incident follows another performance issue earlier in December, adding to reliability concerns. Snowflake committed to publishing a full root cause analysis.
