Sony Group has developed technology to identify and track copyrighted music within AI-generated content. According to Nikkei Asia, the system enables songwriters to claim compensation when their work is used to train AI models without authorization.
The technology utilizes two distinct identification methods. It can extract training data directly from an AI's base model with developer cooperation or compare AI outputs against existing catalogs to estimate original sources.
Sony intends for the system to underpin a future revenue-sharing framework. This model would compensate artists based on the specific contribution their work makes to new AI-generated compositions.
