Sony Japan has temporarily suspended orders for the vast majority of its CFexpress and SD memory card lines, effective March 27, 2026. [2, 3] The company attributed the decision to a global shortage of solid-state memory and other components, making it unable to meet foreseeable demand. [2, 4]
The shortage is reportedly driven by massive demand for memory components from AI data centers, which is consuming the finite supply of NAND flash used in storage cards. [4, 5] The halt affects nearly all of Sony's memory cards, including CFexpress Type A and B, as well as its popular TOUGH and other high-performance SD card series. [2, 3]
