Licensing negotiations between AI music startup Suno and major labels Universal Music Group (UMG) and Sony Music have stalled. Labels assert that Suno trained its technology on copyrighted songs without permission. One executive stated there is currently no path toward a deal under the present proposal.

The stalled talks follow copyright infringement lawsuits filed by the labels against Suno in 2024. While Warner Music Group settled its suit and partnered with Suno in late 2025, UMG and Sony continue their legal actions. The labels are seeking licensing fees and potential equity stakes in the startup.
