Stellantis expects to finalize a decision on its R3 billion greenfields plant in the Eastern Cape within the next few months. The company is reframing the project to include at least one additional model alongside the originally planned pickup truck.

Production at the South African facility will likely begin in mid-Q3 2028 if the project receives approval within four months. This updated timeline follows a previous pause for project reassessment to address shifting market demands.

The automaker is currently negotiating terms with the South African government regarding the Automotive Production and Development Programme (APDP). The facility targets an eventual annual production capacity of 50,000 vehicles.
