Tencent Holdings' shares rose as much as 6.2% in Hong Kong following the launch of WorkBuddy, an artificial intelligence agent for workplace tasks.

The launch aligns with a broader trend among Chinese technology firms, including Alibaba, to adopt the OpenClaw open-source AI agent framework. This industry-wide adoption serves as a strategic move to lock users into specific cloud ecosystems.

Tencent is also internally testing QClaw, a tool designed to simplify OpenClaw and integrate it with the WeChat and QQ messaging platforms. This integration allows users to control computers remotely via chat commands.

The new agent supports various third-party AI models to ensure operational flexibility. Compatible models include those developed by DeepSeek, Kimi, and MiniMax.
