A U.S. National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) judge ruled Atlassian illegally fired senior engineer Denise Unterwurzacher in June 2023. The judge found the termination was retaliation for her Slack comments criticizing company restructuring and the elimination of front-line manager roles.
The ruling classified her posts as protected concerted activity under federal labor law. Atlassian must reinstate Unterwurzacher to her former position and provide full back pay with interest. The company stated it plans to appeal the decision.
