Results from the study, which evaluated the AI's use in assisting pathologists, were published in Nature Digital Medicine.
The multi-center evaluation involved over 1,000 patient biopsies across three NHS trusts. The findings showed the AI technology enhanced diagnostic precision by flagging subtle cancerous lesions. This led to changes in the initial diagnosis or grade for 5% of patients. In some cases, these changes were significant enough to potentially alter clinical management. The study also noted accelerated diagnostic turnaround times.
