Tesla Inc. and Australia's Syrah Resources have once again extended the deadline concerning an alleged default on their graphite supply agreement, pushing the new date to January 16, 2026. This marks the second extension in two months, highlighting the challenges Tesla faces in securing a stable supply of active anode material from outside of China for its electric vehicle batteries. The original agreement, a cornerstone of Tesla's strategy to diversify its supply chain, involves Syrah supplying graphite anode materials from its Vidalia plant in Louisiana. The extension follows a default notice Tesla issued in July 2024 after Syrah allegedly failed to provide conforming material samples. Tesla retains the right to terminate the entire offtake agreement if final qualification is not achieved by February 9, 2026.
