Tesla’s Supervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) fleet has surpassed 8.2 billion total miles. The automaker claims the FSD system is involved in seven times fewer major and minor collisions than human-driven vehicles. More than 3 billion of the total miles were recorded in city driving conditions. CEO Elon Musk highlighted the milestone on the social media platform X.

These safety claims coincide with rising scrutiny of Tesla’s autonomous vehicle performance. Tesla’s Austin-based Robotaxi service reported five additional crashes in January. The service has recorded 14 total incidents since its launch in mid-2025. Recent analyses suggest these robotaxis are involved in accidents more frequently than human drivers.
