Tesla has integrated the Grok artificial intelligence chatbot into Model 3 and Model Y vehicles to enhance in-car voice control.
Elon Musk’s xAI company developed the conversational assistant to handle navigation programming and route suggestions. The system also answers a wide range of general knowledge questions.
The update introduces multiple selectable personalities ranging from educational tutors to child-friendly options. It includes 18+ restricted modes such as Unhinged and Sexy, though Tesla has not detailed moderation protocols for these modes while driving.
Conversations with the AI are anonymous and are not linked to specific vehicles. Tesla expects to roll out the feature to Model S and Model X via a future over-the-air update.
Access to the Grok assistant requires a Premium Connectivity subscription or an active Wi-Fi connection.
