Tesla Scraps $8,000 FSD Buyout, Shifts to $99 Subscription Model to Drive Adoption

Tesla officially discontinued the $8,000 one-time purchase option for Full Self-Driving (FSD) capability in North America on February 14, 2026.

The company now exclusively offers the advanced driver-assistance system through a $99 monthly subscription model.

This strategic shift aims to increase adoption rates by lowering the initial cost of entry for consumers.

Tesla first announced this transition in January to move away from the upfront payment structure.

While the North American deadline took effect today, Tesla extended the outright purchase option in Australia until March 31, 2026.
