Tesla is set to showcase its driverless Cybercab robotaxi at the China International Import Expo in Shanghai next week, marking the vehicle's debut in the Asia-Pacific region. The company's return to the major trade fair after a two-year absence is seen as a strategic effort to regain momentum in China, the world's largest electric vehicle market. This move comes as Tesla faces significant challenges in the country, with its market share having dropped from 16% in 2020 to 6.9% in 2024. Sales in mainland China fell by 6% year-on-year in the first nine months of 2025. By highlighting its advancements in artificial intelligence and autonomous driving, Tesla aims to redefine its brand and competitiveness against a backdrop of rising local rivals. The company stated that the expo will help demonstrate how it is "actively integrating artificial intelligence into the real world."
