Tesla's sales in Europe experienced a significant downturn in September, falling 10.5% year-over-year to 39,837 all-electric vehicles sold, according to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association. This decline has reduced Tesla's share of the European EV market to 3.2%, down from 4% a year prior. Over the first nine months of 2025, Tesla's sales in the region have dropped by nearly 29% from the same period in 2024. The slip in Tesla's performance comes as Chinese competitors are aggressively expanding. BYD's sales in the broader European market surged by 398% year-over-year in September, increasing its market share to 2% from just 0.4% the previous year. Similarly, SAIC Motor Corp., owner of the MG brand, saw its sales grow by 75.5%. The trend underscores the intensifying competitive pressure Tesla faces in a key international market, even as the overall EV market in Europe continues to grow.
