Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) began resuming operations at its Kumamoto, Japan facility following a 7.1 magnitude earthquake. The company previously evacuated all personnel from its Japan Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing (JASM) subsidiary as a precaution.

Structural inspections confirmed the plant's buildings are safe. Detailed inspections remain ongoing as the factory returns online to prevent a prolonged shutdown.

Construction of a second plant on the site was not affected. Work on the second facility halted briefly only to manage aftershock risks.

TSMC American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) dropped over 2% in pre-market trading. The decline followed initial fears of significant global semiconductor supply chain disruptions.
