A new analysis from Playgama indicates that Unity continues to be the leading engine for web game development, powering over half of all new titles in the first half of 2025. The platform remains the preferred choice for developers working on 3D and complex projects due to its flexibility and robust support ecosystem. However, the report also highlights a decline in Unity's dominance across several game genres, particularly those with fewer 3D elements. In nine of seventeen categories, Unity's market share has fallen below 50 percent. Lighter, more specialized engines like Construct, Phaser, and PlayCanvas are gaining popularity for casual, puzzle, and idle games, indicating a maturing and diversifying web gaming ecosystem where developers are selecting tools more deliberately based on project complexity.
