United Airlines flight UA2127, a Boeing 787-9 bound for Newark (EWR), made an emergency return to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Monday. The aircraft returned shortly after takeoff following a malfunction in its left engine. Ground-level video footage showed smoke emanating from the engine during the aircraft's approach.

The aircraft landed safely with more than 250 passengers and crew members on board. Emergency crews evacuated all occupants on the taxiway using slides and stairs. No injuries were reported.

The incident prompted a temporary ground stop for all other flights at LAX. The Federal Aviation Administration is expected to investigate the cause of the engine malfunction.
