UnitedHealth Group issued a statement on May 21, 2026, countering a Guardian article it described as anecdotal.

The company stated its payment programs with Skilled Nursing Facilities are public. These programs incentivize high-quality care using criteria aligned with CMS value-based programs.

UnitedHealth refuted claims that it pressured to avoid hospitalizations or influenced end-of-life decisions. It called these allegations verifiably false.

The U.S. Department of Justice previously investigated similar allegations. Following a multi-year review of extensive documentation, the DOJ declined to pursue the matter.
