Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell filed a lawsuit against UnitedHealthcare Insurance Company. The state accuses the UnitedHealth Group unit of defrauding the MassHealth Medicaid program of at least $100 million.

Prosecutors allege the company manipulated the health status of elderly patients to secure higher government payments. The insurer allegedly submitted inaccurate diagnoses for Senior Care Options plan members between 2015 and 2025.

The Attorney General claims the company used a growth-at-all-costs strategy to make patients appear sicker. UnitedHealth called the complaint meritless and stated it does not accurately describe the program.
