Visa now supports Chinese Visa cardholders adding their cards to Apple Pay for overseas transactions.
The initiative enables cardholders from participating Chinese banks to make payments at international Visa merchants, both in-store and online. The initial rollout includes the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Bank of China, and China Merchants Bank.
This move taps into the growing trend of mobile and contactless payments. Visa reports that 79% of its global in-person transactions are currently contactless.
By enabling Apple Pay abroad, Visa aims to provide a more secure and seamless experience. The system leverages tokenization services to enhance data security for cross-border payments.
