PepsiCo signed a long-term deal with Fertiberia to expand green hydrogen-based fertilizer use across its European supply chain. The partnership aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions for ingredients used in Lay’s, Doritos, and Cheetos.
Fertiberia will supply up to 150,000 tonnes of Impact Zero low-carbon fertilizer annually. The companies expect to reach this full supply volume by 2030. This initiative covers nearly 400,000 acres of farmland in France, Spain, and Greece.
A pilot program previously demonstrated emissions reductions of up to 20% in corn farming. Fertilizer usage accounts for nearly 50% of the carbon footprint for PepsiCo’s European potato operations.
The agreement supports the pep+ (PepsiCo Positive) transformation plan for regenerative agriculture. This strategy serves as a critical component of the company’s broader decarbonization goals.
