Chevron confirmed a new oil discovery at the Bandit prospect in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. Operator Occidental Petroleum and partner Woodside Energy collaborated on the exploration well. The site is located approximately 125 miles off the coast of Louisiana.
The well encountered high-quality, oil-bearing Miocene sands. Partners are currently evaluating results to determine the next development phases for the prospect.
Occidental executives indicated the find could utilize subsea connections to existing nearby facilities. This approach would enhance the project's economic viability.
The discovery reinforces the deep-water region's potential for major producers. It aligns with the focused exploration strategy of Chevron, the largest leaseholder in the Gulf of Mexico.
