IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol announced Wednesday the agency is prepared to authorize additional emergency oil reserve releases. This action remains contingent on supply disruptions stemming from the Middle East conflict.

The announcement follows a request from Japan's Prime Minister to prepare for further releases if the situation persists.

Member countries have already released 400 million barrels of oil. This volume represents only 20% of the total strategic stockpiles held by IEA members.

The agency aims to curb price volatility and ensure supply security in key production regions. This signal intends to calm global energy markets and temper upward pressure on crude prices.
