Volkswagen is recalling 22,524 ID.4 electric vehicles because a high-voltage battery failure could cause a fire. The recall covers certain models produced from early 2023 through February 1, 2025.

The problem may occur with certain charging profiles when the battery’s charge level is above 80%. The defect’s root cause is unknown, and Volkswagen is still developing a remedy.

Until a fix is available, Volkswagen advises owners of affected vehicles to limit charging to 80%. The company expects to notify owners by mail in late November.
