A federal jury in Waco, Texas, ordered Japanese chipmaker Kioxia to pay Viasat $229 million. The verdict was delivered on July 16, 2026.
Jurors found Kioxia’s flash-memory devices infringed on Viasat’s patented error-correction systems. Viasat originally developed this technology to reduce power consumption and improve reliability for its satellites.
The award is structured as a continuing royalty for past infringement. Viasat initiated the legal action in November 2021.
Viasat is also pursuing a similar patent infringement case against Western Digital.
