Viatris announced positive top-line results from a Phase 3 trial of VR-205 in Japanese adults. The drug treats primary immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN), a chronic kidney disease.

The study met its primary endpoint by demonstrating a 33.75% reduction in urine protein-to-creatinine ratio after nine months. This targeted-release formulation of budesonide was well-tolerated during the trial.

Japan represents a significant market for the treatment as the country has the highest global incidence of IgAN. Viatris intends to submit a New Drug Application in Japan by the end of 2026.
