Belgian prosecutors are investigating Wise for potential anti-money laundering compliance failures. The probe centers on approximately €500 million in suspicious transactions. These funds are allegedly linked to fraud, drug trafficking, and corruption.

Authorities launched the investigation after Wise accounts appeared in hundreds of judicial assistance requests from over 30 European countries. Wise shares fell sharply following the reports. The company is cooperating with the Brussels prosecutor but stated it has not yet received specific findings.

This follows previous regulatory scrutiny for the firm. Wise completed a remediation plan with the National Bank of Belgium in 2021. Its US subsidiary was fined $4.2 million in July 2025 for similar compliance shortcomings.
